agua : water : life

we got this dvd a while back from danielle at 'water wells for africa' and it captured some cool moments of new water wells being installed, introduced, and dedicated. some stills from this dvd can be viewed at their website.

as i met w/ jon last night, i shared how everytime i see water that all i can think of is how much we take it for granted. i turn on the shower and let it warm up for a couple minutes; i wash my hands w/ clean water flowing over them freely; i drink 2-3 bottles of water during my day @ work; even looking into a urinal or toilet where i see a couple of gallons swirl around as i pull the lever makes me think. and that's really the point here. do we even think about all that water? are we grateful for every opportunity we have to bathe in it, drink it, flush it? more than anything, this project of ours has made me think of this and thank God for such a gift.

this is week 9 of 31 and we're going strong. jon has had a vision for a picture update for awhile and we put it in effect this week. we talked about cropping the pics to only show our beards or taking a pic w/ only the beards being shown, but jon inspired this week's photo update where we're pulling beanies down over our eyes. it's a simple demonstration of how this is more about our beards and what their growth symbolizes than our faces/hats/glasses/eyes, etc...

we're growing our beards for 7 months in order to draw attention the deficit of clean, healthy water in so many areas of the great continent of africa. it's about the people there being afforded the same opportunity to drink, wash, bathe, and splash in water you can actually see thru. when people ask us why we're growing our beards so long(and they do) it provides an opening for us to share w/ them how we can come together and make a difference in an entire village.

hope you'll join us!
